Slovenia
Slovenia is a country in southern Central Europe bordered by the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea, neighboring Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. Its diverse offerings, from landscape to culture and gastronomy, attract filmmakers and advertisers seeking beautiful and reliable locations.
Filming in Slovenia
Slovenia’s charm lies in its diverse landscapes, including the Alps, coastlines, vineyards, hills, olive groves, mountains, lakes, river islands, and dense forests. Celebrated for its safety, sustainability, and diversity, Slovenia is a favored choice for global film production, offering captivating locations easily accessible throughout the seasons.
The Slovenian Film Centre actively promotes Slovenia as an international film destination, with a focus on the Slovenia Film Commission to enhance the country’s appeal. This effort gained recognition with the 2022 Netflix production “The Union,” starring Halle Berry, Mark Wahlberg, and J.K. Simmons. Major players like Disney and Amazon have also selected Slovenia for their film backdrops.
Since 2017, Slovenia has introduced incentives for audiovisual production, coupled with expertise and state-of-the-art equipment, solidifying its position as an attractive hub for creative projects.
Climate
Slovenia, with its mild, continental climate, is mainly mountainous and forested, influenced by varied relief and the presence of the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. Daytime temperatures range from 7 °C (44 °F) in January to 28 °C (82 °F) in July. The country features three distinct climate types: sub-Mediterranean in the south, with warm summers and mild winters; Alpine climate in the North-West, experiencing more winter snow and lower temperatures; and continental climate in the central part, characterized by temperature variations, warmer summers, colder winters, and guaranteed snowfall. Winter extends from December to March, and summer lasts from June to September.
